Event status can only be of value: CONFIRMED, TENATIVE or CANCELED (
http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/javadoc/com/google/gdata/data/extensions/BaseEventEntry.EventStatus.html
)
example -
event_status = gdata.calendar.EventStatus()
event_status.value = 'TENTATIVE'
event.event_status = event_status
