The difference is that setting an event to canceled gives you the
opportunity to send out notifications to attendees by setting
<gCal:sendEventNotifications value="true"/>. Deleting the event
directly will not, since you can't send new entry data inside an HTTP
DELETE request.

Other than that, they're identical.
