I just started working with the map chart API for a client-side plugin
I'm creating and the first thing that dumbfounded me was the lack of
North America ..

http://code.google.com/apis/chart/types.html#maps

I would really like to understand the motivations behind the decision
to *not* use established standards.

It's been a while since my last junior history class but back then
Americas were composed of South America AND North America .. not
South America and U.S.A.

Did I miss the ceremony where North America was replaced by the U.S.A
or maybe I just didn't get the memo ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americas

With your API it's possible to set the area to any continent *except*
North America. We can only get the U.S.A, which exclude Canada. This
makes no sense at all.

It's also a bit frustrating that the 50 states are available for the
U.S but not the seven provinces and three territories composing the
Canada.

Regards.
