Hi,

I've been exploring Google Code Hosting for about a month now, and I'm
generally quite happy with it. But there's one minor annoyance.
WikiSyntax just seems too limited. I'm not talking about any one
feature I'm missing, but more a general feeling of incompleteness. A
few examples (some reported as a feature request, some not):

* Syntax highlighting in code sections is always on, and the font is
rather small. I can't seem to fix these problems, since using the font-
tag makes the code lose its code markup.

* I would like to be able to put a faint border and background-color
behind inline code, to make it more distinguishable from the rest of
the text. A border for inline text would be useful in other ways as
well.

* It doesn't seem to be possible to simulate wiki markup with the
available html. This means that if I need something the wiki can't
offer me natively (like a cell spanning multiple columns of the
table), I must fall back to the less attractive html table style.

* You can't easily display mathematical formula's, as is possible in
MediaWiki, for example. The available workarounds available are
unattractive. If I use an image, I can't edit the formula as text in
the wiki. Gadgets are a bit heavy for such a trivial task. Plus, as I
understand it, they can't be displayed inline.

* You can't use wiki syntax characters without them being interpreted
as such. Prefixing with ! (or anything else, as I can tell) does not
work. There are some workarounds for this. |<i></i>| makes a ||. <font
size=3>`[`</font> makes a passable [ character. But it shouldn't be
this hard.

There are more examples. I believe most of them come down to
artificial limits on the wiki placed there to keep things simple. I
will continue to use the wiki anyway, because it works, it's nicely
integrated with the rest of Google Code, and there are in fact
workarounds for many of these problems. But I would prefer the wiki to
be able to handle more. In fact, come to think of it, allowing more
kinds of HTML would solve many of these problems.

What do you think?
