After I reset my repository, (http://code.google.com/p/p2ptag/source/ checkout?repo=default) the mercurial history was indeed gone however the old commit metadata is still accessible via the project updates view (http://code.google.com/p/p2ptag/updates/list).
Is this a bug? If someone committed sensitive information in their commit message, it would still be accessible after a repository reset.
