Hello Mr. Manista. I am an owner of the same project that scanff is a part of which I believe inspired him to begin this thread : http://code.google.com/p/desmumewii/ .
In particular, we have a user called school.player who is consistently making rude and unhelpful comments on our projects. Here are a few recent ones as an example: "Like you." , "ON TOPIC!" , (in reply to proof against his argument provided to him) "lol, I doubt SM64DS is THAT glitchy on the PC" , "Umm... You're stupid. That would require ROM editing." We have asked him several times to stop, but it is obviously not getting through to him. As there is no way to ban him from commenting on our project, we have began simply deleting his comments. We find this to be very tedious and rather annoying as we both have other things to do including running multiple websites and participating on other projects (most of which are open source and also hosted on google code). We have also had a couple similar incidents in the past with users who were just as bad if not a tad worse. On another project I work on, http://code.google.com/p/dop-mii , we once regularly had a few users repeatedly posting issues bashing our work and telling people to use (inferior and closed source) rival software. This was a rather big problem as it sparked - for lack of a better term - flame wars between fans of my software and the rival software on the issues pages when I was too slow to delete them. Honestly, it was really very silly that this had to keep happening simply because I am limited only to a delete comment/issue button. I understand Google's fear that such a power of banning users from a project may be abused. (I'm assuming this is the only reason why this feature hasn't been implemented yet). But to play devil's advocate to this, I believe a project owner has the natural right to ban whoever her or she pleases from their project regardless of whether or not the reasoning is justified simply because the project owner is doing whatever makes usage of the project page easier for them. scanff and I and about 20 other developers I can think of off the top of my head absolutely love google code. However, we are extremely frustrated along with many users of our projects over the abuse our projects receive in the form of rude comments and issues posted. We would greatly appreciate a function to let owners ban users from commenting or posting issues on a project in order to allow us to fight back against the abusers more effectively than with just a delete button. Thank you very much for hearing us out. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Project Hosting on Google Code" group.
