I am also having the same problem. I tried checking out to a new repository and then committing but I still get:
svn: Commit failed (details follow): svn: Server sent unexpected return value (500 Internal Server Error) in response to MKACTIVITY request for '/svn/!svn/act/ 319e8f05-615e-4dee-a426-0517b7c897ce' I'm running on MacOSX so this isn't related to GNOME.
