Hello, I'm working on an open source hardware project which will include some firmware. The project related code will be open source, however, will require some non-open source code. This will mainly be some micro- controller specific files provided by the vendor (Microchip) as well as a vendor supplied Ethernet stack. The stack and other Microchip copyrighted code is free to use and modify, providing you use it with their chips, but it is not officially open source.
Can I host such a project with Google Code? I've noticed there are some other open hardware projects using Google Code to host their firmware, and including some Microchip licensed files, but I don't want to assume that "because someone else is doing it" means it is OK for me to do it. I would obviously keep all Microchip copyright notices in their files. I was thinking that I could leave the Ethernet stack out of the project, and require the user to download it separately and link it in, but ultimately I will need to include at least a few files from the stack, which will be modified for the project. Any advice appreciated. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Project Hosting on Google Code" group. To post to this group, send email to [email protected].
