Yay, it works, thanks! I misunderstood this phrase: "Modifying this setting 
will not delete existing Git, Mercurial, and Subversion data, but it will 
change the way the site displays your project's contents."

I thought it meant that you have a magic internal representation of projects 
and can convert between version control systems, so when I saw an empty 
repository, I decided that it was a bug, and wrote there before touching 
anything. Thanks for clarification. BTW, maybe reword that phrase?
