Dear Madam / Sir:

I am writing to you about a project that, from what I can tell, has been
abandoned. The primary issue is that the downloads are woefully out of date
which is causing problems.

The project in question is...
http://code.google.com/p/optiboot/

> 1. How long has the project lay fallow?

The primary download (
http://code.google.com/p/optiboot/downloads/detail?name=Optiboot_v3.zip) was
last updated May 9, 2010. The download contains software that has been
superseded by newer versions available from other sites.

> 2. Is there something "fishy" about the circumstances of the request?

No. I am a moderator and active participant on the Arduino Forum. My plan
is to: 1. Remove the out-of-date download. 2. Poll the interest parties
(Arduino core group; forum; westfw) for what to do with the site. 3.
Ideally, keep the site as a place to exchange information about optiboot.

> 3. Is there code in that project?

Yes. But it is woefully out-of-date. The active version of optiboot has
been moved to github.

> 4. Is the project scheduled for deletion?

As far as I know, no.

> 5. Is the project you wish to take over a spam trap or hosting malware or
simply not open source?

No.

> 6. Have you made an effort in good faith to contact the current owners?
What, if anything, did they have to say in reply?

Yes. The following email was sent to cathedrow (Peter Knight) Oct 18...

There has been no reply.

> 7. Has one of the original developers died or otherwise dropped off the
grid in some fashion that you can describe to us?

His last twitter was Jan 15...

His last post on the Arduino forum was 2010 Nov 22...

> 8. Have you hosted malware, spam or non-open source content on Project
Hosting before? If so, don't be optimistic that we'll cooperate.

No. The entirety of my content on Project Hosting is here...

Thank you for your consideration,
