Alex, if you'd read the original request, it was to obliterate confidential data accidentally committed upstream, which is a rather common problem one faces eventually with version control.
In the process of trying to resolve it themselves, one of them nuked the whole repository by accident. If you've got schadenfreude, please keep it to yourself.
