It is barely freeware.

It is just a windows-only market drug so that you remain coding stuff
only for windows. If you like the idea of falling on those schemes, go
ahead. Though never underestimate the real cost of these things, MS'
bussiness model does not work by giving things for free, it is more of
a 'it is free while you get dependent on it, you'll pay me later' way.
It is of course a great product, but don't call it free. You at least
need to pay for a windows license...

Anyway, none of its features is really necessary for simple problem
solving. Though I may be biased after accomplishing so much using only
g++, valgrind and geany... At least until the semifinals stage, this
combination did not cause me any problem. If I couldn't advance to the
finals it was not due to limitations in my compiler/debugging
environment but due to not thinking of a good solution to the
problems.
