To actually solve problems, I think you need to practice. That is what I found out from this experience of codejam. Even my DP is poor and I am planning to refer CLRS for detailed study and practice a lot of problems.
For 3rd of 1C, I solved the small input. But I was sure that my code was not going to work for the large input b'coz the algo i used was extremely bad. Although I'm not sure, but it was similar to Josephus problem.
