afaik, C++ is one of the very few choices (and possibly the best one) in 
the scope of ACM/ICPC and TopCoder.

ACM/ICPC and TopCoder participants tend to use C++/Java and they do have a 
great advantage over those who do not have any algorithm competition 
experience.
Perhaps that's one reason why C++ always win at last: )
