If metal x will be used somewhere else, there is no difference between "use it now and go for its ingredients later" and "use its ingredients now and use it later"; If metal x will NOT be used somewhere else, then use it now is a better solution; So no matter what, you should use it now and go for its ingredients after all metal x are used.
