I haven't really been paying attention to this much ... vacation ....

Anyway ... I think I did it. Or maybe I did something else :) Google 
does have the tendency to label different things with the same name, 
"group" being one of them ...

Anyway, I created a group in my domain, for this example, I'll call it 
"Part Time Faculty", email [email protected] . Then I add all faculty who 
are part time and create a shared contact with [email protected] as the 
email address. When the Dean thinks of Something Important, he (it's 
always a he, isn't it?) emails to that and all the part-timers get the 
message. If indeed they are checking their email.

Which may not be what you're doing. I know it's been working for us 
since May... except when I forgot to put some people into some groups 
and I'm still looking for a way to blame Google for that, but I don't 
think that's going to happen :)
