I'd be interested in having a function for merging two contacts.

I could write this manually, but I'm concerned about getting the
functionality I need. Suppose I delete and re-add a contact on my
Gmail chat list. Will this send them a new chat invite? I don't want
that -- they've already approved my chat invite and I don't want to
send another one. Same with my list of Reader contacts and others.

The merge functionality in Gmail and the Contacts front end works
great, but it is a manual process only. I have too many contacts that
need merging to go through them one by one. That's why I wanted to use
this API to write a script. Any ideas on how to do this appreciated
(also, perhaps some of you have already done this?)
