"Google Voice Flag"
I've been playing with google voice on the Droid and think there
should be a flag added into "Contacts" that allow me to specify if I
want to use google voice or not for each number. The Android Google
Voice app allows for a prompt option to ask if you want to place each
call "with" or "without" using google voice. With this new flag, I
could setup any contact numbers to automatically use google voice or
not use google voice and eliminate the prompt. If none are selected,
simply continue with the prompt. This would be helpful to allow me to
setup those contacts who I know are not Verizon customers and would
cost me minutes... I could setup them to call using google voice.

"Contact Setup"
I've switched from Outlook to Google Contacts for everything. I use
my contacts for family names for Christmas cards and have stored the
names as "Bob and Mary Jones". With contact integration with about
every google application, I now have also created "Bob Jones" and
"Mary Jones" with separate phone numbers so I can identify Bob or
Mary.

The problem with all the separate contacts it that then I have
information in multiple contacts that really are linked. So I may or
may not have addresses in each or same home phone.

My first idea would be to use the "Bob and Mary Jones" and separate
out the first and last name. First name would be "Bob and Mary" and
last as "Jones". If they call me from a home phone I would see "Bob
and Mary Jones" displayed. On the "Mobile" number I would like
another field for "first name". So the first mobile number I can
specify it is "Bob" and the second "Mobile" I can say is "Mary". Then
when a call comes in from Bob I will see "Bob Jones".

Now with this idea, one could say you may need names on addresses and
work numbers. Bob and Mary may have their addresses for work and the
name would specify who's work address. Same for birthday's, or
allowing to add additional people like children and their birthday's
or phone numbers. Those birthdays and anniversaries could
automatically populate the calendar.

This is great for many things. One, it will reduce my contacts and
keep my information more accurate. I also like it for use in the
"Google Navigation" so I can say "Navigate to Bob Jones" and it is
more likely to have the address in the joint contact, where I may not
have it duplicated in the "Bob Jones" separate contact.

Another thing that I just ran across is with the Picasa program. The
program is great in that it identifies faces and I can just select who
they are. One issue I have is similar to the above request, if it
recognizes my mother as a child her name was not "Mary Jones" but was
say "Mary Smith". Do I want Picasa to show "Mary Jones" or "Mary
Smith"? I'd prefer "Mary Smith"... maybe only because I work in
genealogy. Do you get into maiden names within the contact "Bob and
Mary Jones"? Would be nice, or some other sort of linking that ties
everyone together.

Hopefully you can see that the "Contacts" really does appear to be the
backbone of the google applications and could possibly use some
updates to better support the needs of the many applications accessing
the information. I really think the "Contacts" should be it's own
seperate application and not buried within GMail. It is much more
than mail, and the Droid and Picasa programs that I recently used are
proof that there is much more to come from the "Contacts" application.

Thanks.

2) "Contacts" is becoming much more and being used for more and more.
With using Picasa for photo recognition and many other google apps.
An optional "First" name next to each phone number in the contacts
would help reduce the number of contacts and then display the first
name of the caller and last name. At this time Contacts does not
separate the first and last name. I now have contacts saved as "Bob
and Mary Jones" with their home information and address for christmas
cards. But I also then store "Bob Jones" and "Mary Jones" with
seperate phone numbers. Would be nice to just have one Contact with
"Bob and Mary" as first name, "Jones" as last name with the home
number. Then under "Mobile 1" have another first name of "Bob" and
"Mobile 2" first name of "Mary". If "Mobile 1" calls me then "Bob
Jones" should display... or if the home number calls it will display
"Bob and Mary Jones". Another option is to still have three contacts
and link "Bob" back to "Bob and Mary Jones". Along with the purposes
I tried to describe, the other nice thing would be to have the address
in there for all contacts then... so with google navigation I can say
"Navigate to Bob Jones" and it will load the address from contacts.

Sorry for the long suggestion... and it may not be all google voice..
but the contacts people. It really need to go to many departments
because they are are connected in the suggestion.
