I was going through the discussion on formatted vs. structured names and addresses, which has taken place in a few threads, including: http://groups.google.com/group/google-contacts-api/browse_thread/thread/ea623b18efb16963
On that thread, I noticed Charlie Wood mentioning that: > The only "right" solution IMHO would be to expose > only structured fields in the Gmail Contact Manager. > I hope that happens! First, I would like to say: Please, please, please do not implement this as requested above. For a bunch of applications, parsing the name/ address into the correct field is much less important than having it just as a single entity. I am so incredibly thankful that Google Contacts allows me to just enter the full name and paste the full address and format it as I want. That said, I would occasionally like to fix those results, to correct an erroneous split into first/last name or into street/city/zip/etc when that parser is ready. So exposing the ability to toggle between displaying formatted structured fields, through a small link by the main name or address field would be a great boon. Of course, some individuals might prefer structured to be the default, and allowing them to set that in the settings would improve matters even further. Keep up the good work, Google Contact Manager rocks! Best, Magnus -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Contacts API" group.
