I just tried installing from mercurial repo and got exactly the same error. I am not sure if I have the right atom package. I thought it gets installed with the gdata client, but when I try "pip install atom", it tries to download atom-0.9.2.tar.gz and build that ultimately fails (I think because it tries to build for wrong architecture). Why is pip trying to install something when I already see atom installed? Unfortunately, there is no version information for atom that is installed, so don't know what is the difference. I will try to figure out if I can download atom-0.9.2.tar.gz and compare the source.
