Hello, About the https vs http, all of your API calls should use https (SSL).
About the internal server error "cannot create entry", this can happen due to an inconsistent state the domain user "bob.dog" is in. It is possible that this user has not been properly created and is causing an issue with the Profiles API. What you can do is try retrieving the same user with the Provisioning API<http://code.google.com/googleapps/domain/gdata_provisioning_api_v2.0_reference.html>to make sure everything is in order. If the user has recently been created and doesn't have any data associated, you can try deleting and re-creating the account (which induce a 5 days delay...).
