The API is available through raw HTTP REST as well:
  http://code.google.com/apis/contacts/docs/3.0/developers_guide.html

You can send Ajax calls mapping the Protocol tabs of the developer's guide
and/or write your own client library. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any
supported javascript client library for this API.
