Hello, There are extra restrictions on the contact's phone number (and other elements) described in the reference guide:
http://code.google.com/apis/contacts/docs/3.0/reference.html#extraRestrictionsOnSomeElements *Caution*: When you create or update a contact, if you supply both rel and label (or neither) for any of those elements, then the server rejects the entry. Also, you should always catch the exception and check the response body of the error returned by the API as it usually contains a more detailed error message.
