I don't know since when it is there, but today i saw in the Contacts of
google apps account, there is a new option available called "*Manage
delegation settings*". It got me excited since it enable one of the long
sought-after features in google contacts - contacts sharing.

I have got not much article regarding this new feature other than this
small help article here : *Delegated
Contacts<http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2590392>
*.

Though this feature look very promising and useful. However, after a little
observation, i found the following serious shortcomings and bugs which i
would like to report here :

*1) You have to delegate (share) ALL of contacts under your My Contacts. **You
cannot delegate contacts under groups other than My Contacts.*

Currently, you can not choose to share only some contacts. Nor you can
choose to share contacts under any groups other than My Contacts. This
really need to be fixed. What if i want of share a particular contact or a
particular group and not necessarily my entire My Contacts?

*2) Delegated Contacts are not searchable*.

Yes, you heard it right. The search giant has made the delegated contact
unsearchable :-) May be it is a bug or maybe it is intentionally left like
this, but this is the most disappointing and annoying thing currently for
Delegated Contacts which makes this whole thing almost useless. I have made
one of my employee's contacts delegated to me successfully but i cannot
search those contacts at all :(

*3) You can edit the contacts delegated to you but you can not move it to
your My Contacts or any other contact groups.*

So it makes the above 2nd issue worse. First, you cannot search the
delegated contacts, and then you cannot even move it to any of your own
contact group including My Contacts so that you can at least search it
there, then what is the use of sharing then?

(I could seemingly tick a contact, which is actually exclusively under a
delegated contacts, to any of my contact groups including My Contacts
through clicking on the Groups icon made for moving/assigning a contact in
multiple groups, but when i click that icon again, it again shows that the
exclusive contact is yet not assigned to the contact group i intended to;
definitely a bug).

-------

*I request Google contacts team to please look into these shortcomings /
bugs and fix them soon.*

*
*
*Note : *I am a Google Apps premier customer, maybe the standard app and
normal google accounts have not got this feature (yet).

Thanks for reading!
