You can modify the gadget and then upload it to the same location where you uploaded your initial version. It'll get updated.
If you want to sell your gadget, you can sell it through your own website by not submitting it to Google's directory. Or ideally, you can have some advanced version disabled in the free version which can be purchased only when the user buys the full version, which would be distributed through your website.
