Hi,

1.) Automatically - no. You will have to modify the about text of your
gadget to include the version.
2.) I'm not sure. It usually takes a few weeks for changes to be
reflected on the webpage. After you change your gadget file it
probably takes about 2-4 weeks.
3.) You can use XMLHttpRequest to check for updates on your webpage
and download the new version or just redirect the user to your webpage
with release notes. There is an article about that here:
