I don't think there are any lawyers in this group which can give you a definite answer to your question. I personally had good and bad experiences. The Stargate Atlantis and Prison Break gadgets (which use pictures from the official webpages) didn't get any complains, while my Tetris gadget even received a DCMA because of its name ;)
The best thing to do is make sure that people know that this is not an official gadget but a fan made gadget. The other important thing is to have these fan gadgets freely available so no-one can say you are trying to make money off someones copyrighted material.
