You need to create a Zend_Gdata_Docs client from your http client:

$httpClient = Zend_Gdata_ClientLogin::getHttpClient(
   $user, $pass, Zend_Gdata_Docs::AUTH_SERVICE_NAME);
$docs_client = new Zend_Gdata_Docs($httpClient);
