Documentation often lags client library releases. I've just updatedthe examples you mention. Those changes should be live in a few hours.
As for the reference class documentation. Those are auto-generated. If you fire up the python interpretor and type help(gdata.docs.service.DocsService) after importing the correct modules, you'd get the same thing with a description of each method/member.
