You could set top.location but you cannot read it. I don't think there's another way.
I have the opposite problem. Since the recent deprecation of inlined gadgets I'd like to be able to prevent the automatic iGoogle page refresh which users of my Pandora gadget report happens every 30 mins or so. I think a new API feature would be extremely useful to address these current limitations!
