Hi guys, I have recently built 10 or so gadgets for igoogle, all hosted within the gadgets editor (http://hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets..), and all indexed. Most of my gadgets follow the "feeds in tabs" prototype, but a few are hand coded from scratch. I have AdSense for Content units in all but one of my gadgets, so obviously Google's Policy Terms allow for such use of AdSense. If AdSense wasn't permitted to run within IGoogle, no gadgets containing ads would get indexed in the Gadgets Directory. Correct me if I'm wrong on this.
I have noticed the following bugs/problems with the AdSense program, as it pertains to ads for content embedded within gadgets which are hosted in the google gadgets editor: *********************************************************************************************************************************** 1. Ads are very erratic. -- One hour the ads are technology based, the next hour they deal with the auto industry! 2. Very few of the ads match the gadget's content precisely. -- Some ads are "loosely based" upon the gadget's theme, but my CTR is pretty miserable overall. 3. Section Targeting has failed miserably thus far. -- I implemented the section targeting feature last week for a few of my gadgets, however since most of my gadget's content is dynamically generated from ajax, this feature seems to be worthless to me, at this point. In fact, I think the ads are worse than before I implemented the targeting feature! 4. AdSense for Feeds is highly targeted! -- Yesterday I switched from AdSense for Content to AdSense for Feeds with one of my gadgets. It Works! The feed ads are precise as hell, however they have a worse CTR than my untargeted ads for content! What the hell? Is it skepticism on the part of the user? Feed ads are rather new. Is there anyone that has had any success with AdSense for Feeds within their Google Gadgets? 5. Iframe embeds will not work either. -- For those of you that think you can just host your gadget file elsewhere (Google Pages) and embed it as an iframe within the gadgets editor, good luck with that! Take a close look at the AdSense TOS - pay particular attention to the section that specifies specific situations where AdSense will not work well, if at all. Yep, you got it... the adsense robot cannot access an embedded iframe either! *********************************************************************************************************************************** All this said, my thinking on this subject is that Google prefers that IGoogle remains "AdSense Free", but if someone is skilled enough to find a workaround or two, then so be it. Any thoughts from anyone? Frank --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "iGoogle Developer Forum" group.
