More context information would be useful here, but I am guessing your
gadget is a url type, pointing to a micro website when user login is
performed with a cookie. If this is correct, please check this page of
the gadget API documentation:
http://code.google.com/apis/gadgets/docs/legacy/fundamentals.html#Cookies

Short answer: this works great with Firefox, but for IE, you will have
to implement P3P in your headers.
