Dan,

I'm not completely sure makeRequest is not caching, I'm only asking
because the response is so slow compared with the standard iGoogle
page.  It does return data, though.

here's the URL from the getProxyUrl:
http://www.gmodules.com/gadgets/proxy/refresh=3600&container=ig&gadget=http%3A%2F%2Fudev02.uclick.com%2Fopensocial%2Fgocomics5.xml/http://dimages.gocomics.com/dim/?fh=fc7c5e8d35944cceab5dacf41c8e560f&cq=32&h=120&w=317

I've tried it with and without escaping the called image URL to no
avail.
