Hi Elfish, The Gadget Directory is the area of the Google Gadgets the most filled with mystery. If you browser the group history, you will notice that quite a few messages are about questions why this gadget is no longer listed, or why the developer page is missing some gadgets, etc.
My personal opinion here is that different areas of the directory get updated on different times, which is causing some inconsistencies for new gadgets or gadgets which have their meta data updated. Usually, problems as you described tend to resolve themselves after a few weeks. Several users have posted messages asking about user count going up and down again. I would suggest you use Analytics or something else to track your stats. As your gadgets are of type URL, you should be able to gather data from your server logs. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying everything is fine. I am as well often frustrated by the directory acting unexpectedly, but generally speaking, looking over several weeks, this is working ok.
