Ah, it's a URL gadget! See why it's important to post a link to your
gadget spec? It would take a lot of the guesswork out, you'd get more
and better answers to your question. Who knows what other relevant
information we might be missing?

You're definitely on the right trail with the doc link you posted,
that's specifically about using setprefs in type="url" gadgets.

That's also a good plan, life is much simpler with type="html"
gadgets. There's a short guide to doing the conversion at
http://code.google.com/apis/gadgets/docs/legacy/fundamentals.html#Existing.
It's really not that hard; give it a try and come back if you get
stuck.

Oh, and if you do, post a link to your gadget. Please.
