Hi,

About a month ago an issue was discovered with the persistent XML
cache: it was corrupting cached copies of gadgets. Since this
particular piece of code is going away anyway, it was deemed best to
disable it. The upside to this is that the sometimes long caching
period is now a maximum of about two hours. The downside is that your
servers will take a bigger bandwidth hit because the cache expires
more frequently.

Also, the persistent cache acted as a form of buffer between iGoogle
and the potential errors in the gadget fetching process. For instance,
if your gadget had expired from cache, the persistent cache would
serve the old copy instead. Now, the user will see an error.

The short story is that this problem should go away on its own as we
roll out the new system.

Thanks,
Dan
