The point is that, for generic API gadgets, there's no likelihood that
the user will have a Google account, or be logged into it. There's no
generic mechanism for this sort of thing.

There are Google authorization APIs that you can use to things of this
nature, but it's been a couple of years since I've used them and my
knowledge of them is quite out of date. Take a look at GAuth and
OAuth.
