Hi all! I'm building a news gadget, and I'd like to create some sort of alert that calculates the number of new posts added since the user's last visit and displays that at the top of the gadget (for ex., "2 New Posts!"). It would have to be something variable, since it would differ from user to user, since some users would get on maybe a week later and have four new posts rather than someone who gets on everyday and just has one new post. I'd also like it to disappear once the user exits the page or the widget is reloaded, or even set it up so users could mark messages "read" or "unread" like in e-mail. Any suggestions, advice or guidance to someone/something with advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
