I've also frequently experienced the GGE service interruptions you
mentioned.  In one case a blank line is inserted into line 1 of the
code, and in another the xml header has simply disappeared.

At the moment, I'm trying to assess whether the current outage (yes,
after yesterday's recovery my gadget is again unavailable) is unqiue
to my code. So, I headed over to another Google account's GGE, and am
presented with a blank screen upon launching the GGE; i.e., it
indicates "helloworld.xml" has loaded successfully, but does not
present code.  Also, attempts to save code are unsuccessful.
