You can't, since your gadget lives in an iframe, isolated from the container that has the settings. Instead, you can create a custom interface to your preferences _inside_ your gadget content, hidden by default. When the user clicks your link or button to open prefs, show that interface. Then use the iGoogle API calls to save the prefs, just as if they had edited them in the normal way. This also has the advantage of allowing you to create a more attractive preferences interface for the user. Matt Kruse
