If you have multiple gadgets failing from the same server then the first thing I'd check is if the server is accessible from other locations besides your own. It's also possible that there are intermittent outages. Webmaster Tools at http://www.google.com/webmasters/ can tell you if the crawler has trouble reaching other pages on your site. Services like http://wasitup.com/and http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ can check connectivity from other locations. There are also services that will give answers that are geographically spread out.
Can you give the urls of a couple of the gadgets you're having trouble with?
