Thanks for the suggestions Rob. I tried removing the google.load calls completely and loading the jquery libs by <script /> tags and I still get the same error in IE. Actually, it's intermittent where sometimes I get farther into the main javascript file. There are so many things going on with the gadget and the site, that its impossible to tell when this script is being run: <SCRIPT onreadystatechange="google.loader.domReady()" defer src="//:"><HTML><HEAD><TITLE></TITLE></SCRIPT>
