I finally get what you mean. I only did iGoogle and never Google
Sites, so there went something wrong, my bad, sorry. Don't know if you
are making this work voor Google Sites or for iGoogle. Because the
documentation says:

"Further, in containers like iGoogle where the viewer and editor are
the same, gadget authors can extended configuration as part of the
standard view. In Sites, the viewer is not always the editor, so the
gadget author can't guarantee the viewing user has access to update
preferences. Social containers such as Sites cannot allow any user to
modify the preferences, only the author.
In Sites, the basic gadget preferences interface generated by UserPref
can be replaced by a configuration view where many additional
preferences and data types may be supplied, as in the screenshot shown
here:...."

So it seems to be possible in Google Sites, but not in iGoogle(?). I
don't think I can help with the Google Sites, as said before I don't
have any experience with that. I don't know if I understand the link
you mention correctly, but it seems you answered your initial
question?

BTW I don't know if there's a developer forum for Google Sites,
because this one was intended for iGoogle I think. Don't mean to chase
you away, but merely trying to point you in the direction of people
who can really help you.
