That happens to me occassionally too...and I almost never log out.
But I think it may be for security purposes...to ensure you are the
real owner of the email address or something.  And having been hacked
not long ago, I'm all for any security measures that Google needs to
take to make sure I'm the only one using my email or iGoogle.
