I'm logged in as one user. I've said No to "allow this gadget to know who I am and see my friends group". The gadget does a people.get call for the VIEWER. The response is an error. No access.
Now - I log in as a different user and this time the gadget makes a people.get service call using a specific id rather than 'VIEWER' - the id of the first user. The gadget gets the data. I just can't see how this setting provides any security or privacy at all. What am I missing?
