This can take some time, about two weeks was normal in 2008. I'm not sure that your procedure was correct. There is a link to remove a gadget from the iG directory in your dashboard. If you click that link you get a confirmation mail, another link. After you confirmed the directory deletion the gadget is shown as "not listed in directory" (or similar). You can then delete the gadget and remove it from your dashboard. If you did that backwards simply start again: Add gadget to dashboard. Confirm ownership (e-mail sent to author = you). Remove directory listing in dashboard as explained above, etc, *last* step: remove gadget from your dashboard.
