I can't say about this issue in particular, but I ran into similar issue 
with making REST web service request to a service that required session 
state persistence (i.e. cookies), which iGoogle didn't support. As a 
workaround, I ended up using one of the Flash XmlHttpRequest object 
solutions available to make the web service call.

I don't know if you want to put Flash (requirement) into your iGoogle 
gadget, but that could be a last resort effort if there is no known solution 
currently available.
