Apologies if this has already been mentioned and considered, but would it  
make sense
to use Ant Maven Task ([http://maven.apache.org/ant-tasks/index.html]) to  
publish
jars, even if building using Ant? That works nicely and produces everything  
Maven
needs (checksums, index files) etc, without requiring build process to be  
converted.
