Ucompass: This is a known issue in Spreadsheets Data API:
While using the GData Spreadsheets API, if a GET is issued on an empty cell, currently an empty entry, i.e. one without an inputValue, will be returned. If you modify the empty cell, you cannot 'update' the cell with PUT - you will have to 'insert' it using POST. This behavior will change in a future release.
