I get requests every day from my users and customers for the ability to sync Gmail contacts with Apple Address Book, and I tell them that as soon as there's a GData API for Gmail contacts, we'll do the rest.
I asked about such an API at Google Developer Day today and was told I should post a request here. So here you go. :-) I can see a Gmail contacts API being immediately useful for not only syncing with desktop and handheld databases, but also for other collaboration apps, and immediately adding value to Gmail itself.
